NEW JAMES HUNT DOCUMENTARY REVEALS THE TRUE STORY OF A FORMULA ONE ICON

Featuring exclusive interviews with Bernie Ecclestone and Damon Hill, alongside unseen archive footage and never-before-heard family stories.

James Hunt is remembered as Formula One's rebellious champion, a charismatic playboy and one of Britain's greatest sporting icons. But while many believe they know his story, a major new documentary will reveal a definitive portrait of the real James Hunt.

Made with the support of the James Hunt Estate, “HUNT: We Need to Talk About James”, explores Hunt's life through newly discovered unseen and unheard archive material alongside exclusive insights from family, friends and motorsport industry insiders – including several who have never discussed him on camera.

Freddie Hunt, James Hunt’s son, said:“Dad has so often been painted as something of a caricature. I’m hugely excited that, for the first time, the world will see both sides of the man - and already during filming, stories have come to light that have never been spoken about before.”

The film features contributions from some of the biggest names in Formula One, including 1996 World Champion Damon Hill and F1 mogul Bernie Ecclestone, whose personal reflections help build a deeper understanding of the man behind the myth.

The documentary tells the story of an icon at the centre of Formula One's most legendary championship battle. But by foregrounding intimacy and drawing on previously untold stories from those closest to him, HUNT: We Need to Talk About James also gives audiences a new perspective on one of motorsport's most enduring characters. With the tagline "The Rebel. The Legend. The Truth.", the feature film takes viewers beyond the sensationalism that has long surrounded Hunt's public image and his life in the headlines.

Release is planned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Hunt's historic Formula One World Championship victory, in what is widely regarded as one of the sport's most dramatic seasons. It was a championship win clinched with a single point, at the rain-soaked Japanese Grand Prix on 24 October 1976.

After retiring from racing, Hunt enjoyed a successful second career as a BBC Formula One commentator before his untimely death from a heart attack in 1993, at the age of 45.

Benjamin Field, Director and Producer, said:“This film aims to do for James Hunt what Senna did for Ayrton Senna, delivering a rare treat for F1 and motorsport fans globally. HUNT: We Need to Talk About James is a very human story, painting a complete picture of a man who was definitely flawed, totally driven but also an unexpectedly private figure.”
